The Curse of Quiet Arrogance

What’s the enemy of deep humility? It’s quiet arrogance.

Remember, deep humility is different than the popular “Don’t brag about yourself” idea of humility. So if the opposite of the popular version of humility is bragging about ourselves, what’s the opposite of deep humility?

Well…

If deep humility is a rejection of perfectionism…

If deep humility is a rejection of the “go big or go home” mindset…

If deep humility is a rejection of setting impossibly high standards…

Then at the end of the day, we’re rejecting a quiet arrogance. Quiet because it’s not that loud, chest-thumping sort of arrogance.

Quiet arrogance most severely affects people like me — people who don’t exhibit the loud, chest-thumping arrogance. Which is why quiet arrogance is so sneaky.

Be on the lookout for it slipping in. You can keep it at bay with a dose of deep humility.
