Hand Copying Sales Letters: My Stack of Yellow Legal Pads

If you saw my office desk circa 2012, you’d see a stack of yellow legal pads. Each page was painted top to bottom with pencil.

What was I doing? Hand copying sales letters, of course.

It’s an old technique. A tradition taught by the great copywriters of the past that continues today.

(And for some reason, using yellow legal pads is a big part of it.)

Want to get better at writing copy? Model great copy.

It reminds me of way back in middle school when my baseball teammate and I would model the batting stances of famous sluggers.

When hand copying great sales letters, your body grows accustomed to writing great sales letters. And over time, as you write your own copy, you’ll find you produce hit after hit.
