Released in November, ChatGPT has opened the world’s eyes. We are now beginning to realize how the future will change thanks to Generative Artificial intelligence (aka Generative AI).
Being smack in the middle of the copywriting field, to say I’m affected by Generative AI is an understatement.
I’m still developing my thoughts on this, but here are five big questions I have about copywriters and Generative AI tools like ChatGPT:
Question 1) How many copywriters will resist Generative AI?
I’m curious how many copywriters will acknowledge this new reality, and how many will stick their heads in the sand.
Question 2) To what degree will clients need to be educated?
Clients (i.e., business owners) are already putting too much faith in AI-driven copywriting. I’ve seen the copywriting being produced by ChatGPT, and it ain’t that great. It still needs a copywriter. But will business owners recognize this?
Question 3) Could an AI-assisted copywriter become unbeatable?
All else equal, can a non-AI-assisted copywriter compete with one assisted by AI?
Question 4) When writing good copy becomes a commodity, what makes excellent copy?
If any restaurant can make a good hamburger with the click of a button, how do you make a great hamburger?
Question 5) Who will get washed away?
Who won’t survive the flood? Can businesses still compete without a clear, distinct message? Will copywriters who fail to adapt to a post-AI world lose proposals, and even lose their jobs?
I have more questions than answers at this point, but one thing is for sure: The future of this blog is based on the assumption that AI-driven copywriting is here, and it’s a game changer.
